Photo Screensaver

Photo Screensavers to liven up your Computer Display

A photo screen saver is a straightforward popup program that is integrated within a computer operating system. This program activates an onscreen photo image and causes it to pop up when it senses that there has been no user activity for a stipulated amount of time.

The original rationale behind a photo screen saver or for any kind of screensaver for that matter is to avert what is called phosphor burn-in. Phosphor burn is the consequence of the same image being viewed upon the monitor for an unlimited amount of time, causing the image to get burned onto the cathode ray tube screen. This develops because the phosphors employed in the making of the pixels of the display, glow at a persistent rate for such a long period of time that they in effect tend to change the color of the CRT. This discoloration would then be noticeable as a dull image overlaying anything else that is being presented on the monitor. Today’s technologically sophisticated CRT and LCD displays make burn-ins virtually unlikely, except under extreme settings.

The prefect screensaver would be a plain commonplace black screen. However, most computer users are likely to find that utterly and completely boring.  Many people prefer to get screen savers so that something exciting and appealing is on the computer screen when it goes into its inactive mode. Given a choice, wouldn’t you? I have yet to meet someone who would prefer looking at a black screen that sits there doing nothing over a screen that explodes to life with a non-stop parade of pictures.

A photo Screensaver is an excellent means to promote your business or a product you sell. It’s also a wonderful way of sneaking a peak at your dearly beloved’s pictures even while you are at work. A search of the internet quickly reveals hundreds of photo screensavers that can be downloaded from several websites.

A good photo screensaver would ideally include a dark background to avoid excess power consumption by the display. As for the photos themselves, they could either be in non-stop motion or they could simply be replaced by a different image at preset intervals. This is done primarily to avoid pixel burning on the surface of the monitor. Any fixed objects which now appear on the screen should be dark in color. Timing can usually be set by the user but it is important to keep in mind that if the photos are changed too hurriedly then the scene loses some of its effect. Photo screen savers are commonly configured as uninterrupted slideshows where successions of full photos appear, each one loading the next one to be displayed. Each photo image is known as a slide. Each slide is exhibited upon the screen for a specific time period. When this time period is exceeded, the next slide is presented using one of several transitional effects.

Although most photo screensavers are silent, there are several on the market that permit you to enhance the effect of your photo screensaver by adding your own sounds or even background music to the photos.
