Screensavers that will function on Windows XP should also be able to perform on the latest Window’s Vista operating system. If a problem occurs it is typically a consequence of the executable installation file that installs the screensaver. Vista was developed as a very secure system and as such the location of where files are to be found becomes very significant and obviously is unlike that of Windows XP.
With Windows Vista the name of the installation file is significant since it can establish the desired permission level. However, this can also be rectified merely by the simple act of changing the name of the executable to incorporate the word setup. Accomplishing this should allow Vista to resume the installation. An essential point to keep in mind is that even though it may seem that you are succeeding in installing the screensaver the end result may be confusing resulting in further problems arising with the functionality of the program. The bottom line of our argument is that you as a consumer should not be required to alter the name of the program to make it install. The best avenue of action here would be to just contact the author and notify them that their program is not vista compatible.
Some sites allow you to download and unzip the screensaver file in your Windows installation directory and then follow the instructions to customize the various settings with each individual Vista screensaver.
